The big Why question that always crops up. Why did I choose this path? Why Graphic Design?

I wanted to make a career out of my passion for illustration and design, though for years I had thought it would be through Character Design, Comic work, or Concept Creation. I never even thought about going into Graphic Design until a introductory class I had to take during my second year in the Visual and Digital Media program with Georgian College.

During that class I had found a new way to pursue a career in the arts, in a way that wasn’t as draining and tiring as character design and concept work. Creating new concepts, stories, and characters constantly is draining, as fulfilling and fun as it was. I could barely keep up doing character designs for my own comic, it was hard to imagine being able to do that for a client if I couldn’t for my own comic. Graphic Design was a way to be creative, pursue the arts as a career, and not be as drained and burnt out as I was before.

From there I took a marketing class as a gened and found myself loving it. Learning how marketing worked, and some psychology behind it, was fascinating to me.

After that, I graduated and failed to find a job with my diploma. Knowing that I needed to go back to school Graphic Design felt like the right option, I already knew I enjoyed it and wanted to learn it. Going back to school for it felt like the natrual next step and one that was right.
